It started with a birthday party...
It is incredible how one small idea can grow into something truly special. Our organization's roots trace back to David Bucksot's prom-themed birthday party. After observing the joy his friends experienced – some for the first time, others rediscovering it authentically as themselves – David was eager to share this transformative experience of an adult prom with the wider New Bern community. With the help of friends, he brought his vision to life on a grand scale, creating the first New Bern Pride Prom.
The success of the inaugural New Bern Pride Prom inspired the formation of our nonprofit organization one year later. Our mission is to provide a safe space and resources for the LGBTQIA+ community in Eastern North Carolina throughout the year.

Since our official establishment in 2023, we have taken pride in witnessing the positive impact of our activities on the New Bern community. Upon forming our non-profit, we’ve hosted additional proms, organized support groups, held community events, and launched a safe space program. And there’s still so much more to come!
Our Pillars
New Bern Pride has grown to encompass three core pillars that guide our work: community events, support groups, and safe spaces. These initiatives allow us to help LGBTQIA+ individuals and allies in Eastern North Carolina connect, find support, and thrive.

Providing safe and confidential spaces tailored to the needs of the LGBTQIA+ community to share experiences, seek guidance, and build a sense of belonging.

Empowering growth by partnering with businesses, offering resources and maintaining a business directory that champions safe spaces. We seek to create inclusive environments.
